At the Columbia County Sheriff’s Mutual Aid Foundation, we believe in building a brighter future by investing in the next generation. Many of our programs are designed to foster positive relationships between youth and law enforcement through mentorship, education, and safe activity opportunities. We are passionate about empowering young individuals to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. Additionally, our foundation provides vital financial support for special initiatives and equipment that help a number of worthwhile community efforts. We are constantly looking at new opportunities for positive engagement and welcome ideas and support from all who would like to help make a difference. Every donation directly impacts the safety and well-being of our community and enhances the value of our programs.
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
In Columbia County, approximately 1000 students graduate from the program each year. DARE is a way for police officers to interact in a positive manner to provide young people with resources to help them make good decisions when confronted with drug and alcohol use.
It is not uncommon for students who participated in DARE in the early 90's and who are now young adultsand/or parent, to approach a Deputy Sheriff with a story of how a lesson learned in DARE helped them in an uncomfortable situation.
As an intricate part of positive contact with young people in our communities, the DARE Program will continue to be offered by the Sheriff's Office in future years.

makes the Difference
The Sheriff's Office and District Attorney's Office have been awarded a state grant and have joined efforts to ensure that parents have updated information about their children readily accessible at all times. OPERATION SAFE CHILD is a program CREATED IN 2005 to raise awareness about child safety. It was developed by several agencies within New York State including the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the New York State Sheriff's Association.
Sheriff's Summer Camp
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office participates in the New York State Sheriffs' Summer Camp on Keuka Lake, providing a free, week-long experience for local youth aged 9–12 who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend camp. The camp focuses on building confidence, teamwork, and positive relationships with law enforcement, featuring activities like swimming, fishing, and boating.
